Welcome to the first of a series of articles on Reiki!

In this article we look at the origin of Reiki, and the founder of Reiki, Dr Mikao Usui.

Dr Mikao Usui was a professor who taught Christian theology in Japan during the nineteenth century.

To complete his knowledge he went on to study Sanskrit and Buddhist teachings.

During one of his meditations he focused on the healing symbols which we now know to be Reiki symbols. Earlier he had found these symbols in a manuscript at a Buddhist monastery.

With the symbols he managed to heal himself instantly of a cut, and went on to heal others with his new found knowledge of healing.

Dr Usui developed the system we know as Reiki healing, and taught this system to students who passed it on to their students.

Reiki healing is practiced by healers all over the world.

There are now many forms of Reiki, although the Usui method is the original form taught by Dr Usui.

Dr Usui also formulated five Reiki principles ( which will be included in future articles ) for students to meditate and practice in their healing.
